			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It&#8217;s 11:30 AM. You&#8217;ve been up since 5 o&#8217;clock and the hunger meter is on high. &#8220;What to eat?&#8221; you think to yourself.</p>
<p>You pore over the menu for the deli downstairs but nothing you can allow yourself looks that good. Sure, you could go out for fast food but there&#8217;s a meeting coming up and you don&#8217;t really want to move your car and then have to find a new parking spot when you return.</p>
<p>So you decide not to go out. That leaves eating in.</p>
<p>You look at your choices, wishing you&#8217;d had the foresight to bring something from home. There&#8217;s the vending machine in the break room, filled with plastic-wrapped, rubber-textured sandwiches, bagels, muffins and Danish. Ugh, you keep spinning the carousels, hoping that by some miracle, there will be a vegetable snack plate or something half-way decent. You narrow down your choices to a cup of noodle soup or a chicken breast sandwich.</p>
<p>Now you have another choice: eat something to take the edge off or power through the minutes of temptation until you are sitting in your meeting and eating is out of the question. After an hour of dreary, repetitive discussions, your hunger may have calmed down.<br />

<p>We spend billions of dollars a year on diet pills, medical weight loss programs, gym memberships, and support groups. We read food labels avidly to determine the number of carbs, fats, and calories contained in something we know we&#8217;d be better off without. We count up our daily points and salivate at the thought of the desserts we&#8217;re allowed on our latest regimen.</p>
<p>The key is our relationship with food. There is just so much of it available: fast food outlets clog our streets, television commercials and 24 hour cooking channels whet our appetites, super chefs tempt us to labor long hours in the kitchen to create our own culinary masterpieces. The different diets all have one enormous component in common -they continue this infatuation with food. What can I eat? How many carbs? How many calories? What is allowed? How can it be made to taste as good as possible?<br />

Food is necessary for our physical well being, and the purer the food - the purer and healthier the body. But this also works for the mind too – a diet of pure food creates purer thoughts resulting in a purer mind. </p>
<p>If ever there was a time I was reminded of neglecting my yoga practise, it was when I came to the mat after many days abstinence and could barley touch my toes! This has certainly been the case in my past experience, - until I began seriously eating a diet of pure, raw and natural foods. </p>
<p>I later came to do my practise after a week of feeling unwell, at a time of eating 100% raw fruits and vegetables, and where I would have usually felt stiff, I was surprisingly bendy. This was my proof, and my moment of ‘ah I see!’ surrounding the relevance and importance of the Yogi diet.</p>
<p>A pure and natural diet – ‘Sattvic’ – is one of fresh fruits, vegetables and some grains. Energy – ‘Prana’ – runs through all living things – to eat a piece of food that is ‘alive’ will nourish your body and mind and be highly beneficial in Yoga. Out of over 300 weight loss ads in the media only the FTC claimed that at least 55% couldn’t live up to the promises they were making. If it seems to good to be true it probably is.<br />
